A bright and modern remodel in Orem, Utah, blending clean lines, natural textures, and custom craftsmanship.

Spacious living room with natural light and modern furnishings in Conner Construction custom home in Lehi, UT

Project Overview

This Orem remodel, located in the Cherapple Subdivision, stands out as a showcase of modern design and thoughtful engineering. Our clients wanted more than a cosmetic update. They envisioned a bright, functional, and sophisticated home where every detail worked in harmony, offering a serene master suite and a reinforced rooftop deck designed to safely support a luxurious hot tub. This project highlights our team’s ability to bring design concepts to life through precision, coordination, and care, all while keeping the client’s vision, budget, and timeline in perfect balance. We're proud to give you the grand tour and show off the thoughtful and loving detail we've woven into this personalized sanctuary.

Luxury Primary Suite & Outdoor Living Transformation

What began as a straightforward update evolved into a full-scale transformation. The clients wanted to refresh their primary suite and make better use of their deck, which inspired a complete redesign of the master bathroom, bedroom, and outdoor living space.  As the project progressed, the scope expanded to include new finishes, custom trim work, and detailed ceiling treatments that brought cohesive warmth throughout the home. Despite the growing scope, our team stayed within the client’s budget and delivered a finished product that exceeded expectations, a true reflection of our commitment to quality, communication, and craftsmanship.

Design Vision & Style

Our goal was to create a clean, modern aesthetic that still felt inviting and comfortable. The design features a mix of natural textures and contrasting finishes: white oak ceiling beams, custom alder trim, plaster fireplaces, and quartz countertops that bring both durability and elegance to the space. Throughout the home, thoughtful lighting and added windows invite natural light to flood in, making every room feel bright and open. The ceilings feature custom alder and acoustic treatments, blending architectural interest with sound control for a calm, polished atmosphere.

Structural Innovation: Reinforcing the Rooftop Deck

What started as a simple rooftop update quickly evolved into a structural challenge that required precision engineering. The existing framing couldn’t safely support the weight of a full hot tub, so our team reengineered the deck from the ground up. New beams and floor trusses were added to carry the additional load, and the deck was finished with a durable, waterproof coating that blends seamlessly into the home’s clean, modern exterior. The rooftop space now supports a private hot tub with panoramic views and comfortable lounging, transforming what was once underutilized square footage into one of the home’s most relaxing features.

The Master Suite Transformation

A Spa-Inspired Bathroom

Every detail in the new primary bath was designed to feel calm, intentional, and restorative. The old, bulky platform tub was replaced with a sleek freestanding model framed by soft light and neutral tones. A frameless glass steam shower with black plumbing fixtures adds contrast and sophistication. Beyond the freestanding tub and steam shower, the bath suite is packed with luxury details:

  • Dual vanities with tower storage: Each side features tall integrated towers flanking large mirrors, so daily essentials are at eye level without crowding the counter.

  • Brass plumbing + lighting composition: Brushed-brass faucets and long brass pulls coordinate with two-tone sconces (matte black accents with white shades) for contrast that still reads calm.

  • Pocket door in warm wood: A white-oak pocket door with a brass edge pull saves swing space and quietly ties the bathroom to the home’s oak elements.

  • Stone-look porcelain floors: Large-format tiles run wall-to-wall with minimal grout for a cleaner, more spa-like read and easier upkeep.

  • Smart storage solutions: Extensive soft-close hardware and deep drawers keep clutter off the counters.

  • Countertops & edges: Durable quartz tops with a crisp square edge amplify the room’s modern lines while standing up to daily use.

A Warm and Restful Bedroom

The primary bedroom was designed to feel serene and unforced, so that calm and comfort take the lead. The vaulted ceiling, framed by white oak beams, draws the eye upward, creating a sense of openness while introducing a soft architectural rhythm to the room. The beams add warmth to the airy space, balancing the crisp white walls and natural light that pours in through expansive sliding glass doors.

A large picture window fills the corner seating area with daylight, making it an ideal retreat for reading or relaxing. Subtle details, like the warm brass accents on the lighting and the artwork’s organic tones, bring a gentle sophistication to the space. Together, these elements transform the bedroom into what it was always meant to be: a light-filled haven that’s timeless in style, yet deeply personal in feel.

Materials and Finishes That Elevate the Everyday

From the soft texture of plaster fireplaces to the precision of custom trim work, every finish in this remodel was chosen to look beautiful and stand the test of time. The home’s palette is unified through warm woods, clean whites, matte black fixtures, and quartz surfaces, creating cohesion across every room.

Key materials featured in this project include:

  • Plaster fireplaces with clean, sculptural lines

  • Custom alder and white oak ceiling treatments

  • Quartz countertops for lasting performance

  • Waterproof deck coatings for long-term durability

  • Integrated steam unit and bidet toilet for comfort and efficiency

Challenges & Solutions

No remodel is without its surprises, and this project had its share. One of the most significant challenges surfaced early when our team discovered that the rooftop deck’s existing framing wouldn’t safely support the hot tub the clients envisioned. Rather than compromise the design, our structural team engineered a solution, reinforcing the framing with new beams and trusses to distribute the load evenly and protect the home’s integrity.

Inside, another challenge was integrating our work with previously remodeled portions of the home. We took great care to protect existing finishes while reconfiguring adjoining spaces, ensuring that every transition looked intentional and cohesive.

Scope changes also emerged as the design evolved. Instead of disrupting the timeline or budget, our team managed each change with transparency, walking the clients through updates and options in real time. That clarity helped keep the project on track while giving the homeowners confidence that their investment was handled with care.

Budget & Timeline

The remodel unfolded over roughly six months, from June to December 2023. As with most creative projects, the scope expanded organically as ideas developed and opportunities emerged, from adding ceiling treatments to refining built-in storage and trim details.

The homeowners’ satisfaction at completion reflected not only the craftsmanship of the finished product, but also the integrity of the process. Staying on budget while elevating scope is a hallmark of how Conner Construction operates, thoughtful, precise, and client-focused from start to finish.

Craftsmanship in Detail

Every room in this home reflects a magical juncture of precision and artistry. Craftsmanship here isn’t about ornamentation; it’s about restraint and execution. From the smooth plaster finish on the fireplaces to the perfectly mitered corners of the custom cabinetry, every surface was treated with care. The built-ins, ceiling beams, and trim work demonstrate the quiet discipline of joinery done right: consistent reveals, clean profiles, and finishes that feel timeless rather than trendy.

The oak shelving and accent beams add warmth to the crisp palette of whites and creams, grounding the home’s modern design with natural character. Even the smallest touches, the aligned grain patterns, brass hardware selection, and soft edges on the plaster surrounds, were considered for both aesthetics and longevity.
