Project Overview
Conner Construction • Pleasant Grove, UT • November 2023 – June 2024
When the owners of this Pleasant Grove property set out to transform their backyard, their vision was both practical and aspirational: create a structure that could function as a detached garage and a fully equipped poolhouse, with seamless indoor-outdoor flow that would make it the natural heart of every gathering. Conner Construction brought that vision to life in a build that reflected the homeowners’ love of hosting and has since become the backdrop for celebrations with friends and family.
Working alongside the clients’ interior designer, who brought a beachy, nautical aesthetic to the project, we carefully balanced two key priorities: matching the character of the existing home and giving the new addition its own distinct personality. The result was a cohesive yet expressive space that felt both connected to the property and like it could stand on its own.
Key Features & Highlights
This project stood out to us for many reasons, but mainly because the focus of this remodel was to create a place for the family to have fun. That sentiment echoed through every detail of the project, which you'll see below.
Indoor-Outdoor Living
- A multi-slide door system that opens the interior poolhouse directly onto the pool deck, blending the two spaces into one
- A no-glare television for comfortable movie watching, regardless of light conditions
- A Juliet balcony above the pool, included at the clients’ request for architectural interest and visual appeal from the yard
Outdoor Kitchen & Entertaining
- Built-in BBQ grill with stainless steel cabinetry
- Built-in flat-top griddle suited for large-group cooking
- Wood-fired pizza oven
- Green Egg smoker
- Granite countertops throughout the outdoor kitchen
- Custom doug fir pergolas with built-in seating and swings, providing additional gathering spots around the yard
Upstairs Guest Suite & Lounge
- A flexible upper-level space that functions as both a casual hangout and a private guest room
- A full en-suite bathroom for guest comfort
- LVP flooring throughout the upper level
Poolhouse Interior Finishes
- Quartz countertops and custom white oak cabinetry
- Custom paint-grade cabinets
- Wavy decorative tile in the shower with tile backsplashes throughout
- Wood-grain look tile flooring on the ground level
- Built-in storage and display shelving flanking the fireplace
- Gold light and plumbing fixtures
- A dedicated bathroom and shower for rinsing off after swimming

Challenges & Solutions
Because the pool was already in place when construction began, we faced real constraints around site elevations and how to integrate the new structure without disrupting the existing layout. Rather than treating these as obstacles to work around mid-project, our team addressed them during preconstruction planning by mapping elevations, identifying variables, and making design adjustments before breaking ground. That proactive approach kept the project on schedule and on budget, with no unexpected changes once work was underway.
Matching the poolhouse to the existing home while still giving it its own design identity required careful coordination with the clients’ designer. We worked closely with the design team to ensure material and architectural choices felt intentional and unified across both structures.
Budget & Planning
The project was completed within the agreed-upon budget. We credit this to our thorough preconstruction process, which allows our team to identify potential cost variables early and collaborate with clients on adjustments before work begins. By resolving questions up front, we minimized surprises during the build and delivered consistently on both quality and budget.
A Space That Kept Growing
A few years after we completed the original build, the clients invited us back to add a basement kitchen, fully finishing out the lower level. The addition speaks to the lasting relationships our company has built with these clients and to the quality of the original work that made the homeowners eager to continue the partnership.
Client Testimonial
“Conner Construction was quick and efficient. He did a pool house for us and then finished our basement. He was on budget and on time. His work and warranty are excellent. We have really enjoyed working with this company and are very pleased with the final product.”
